“ A real gem of a bistro located in a historic bldg. that Abe Lincoln once stayed in Alton, IL. The staff is amazing and the food is too. The outside patio reminds me of Greenwich Village NYC with old brick and fountains - what a great vibe. Really cool solid copper bar with a super-entertaining bartender whipping up some badass drinks! Owners are on-site most nights too and take time to hang out and meet customers. How cool is that??! ”

“ We arrived at this historic restaurant and saw immediately the charming ambiance. The wait person was also charming, sweet, helpful, and attentive--we all really liked her. My Arnold Palmer was deliciously mixed. Our party of 4 were impressed with the salads and sandwiches we got for lunch. I had the Braunschweiger and mustard sandwich and salad with beets. I happily ate every bite. I'd advise you to give this little gem a try! ”

The tamale with white chocolate mole sauce was the hands down winner of our table, but the Asian fusion shrimp, bone in pork chops, and Moroccan salmon dishes were all excellent. The drinks were made and served to perfection. The wait staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely return to this restaurant when we are in the area. ”

“ I am so embarrassed, that I have not written a review for State Street Market. It was the first restaurant my cousins took to after I moved to the Alton area 2 1/2 years ago and I immediately feel in love. My love can be seen in the 26 pictures I've posted. They currently have 64 pics on Yelp, so I've posted 40% of them. I've shared photos of my, cocktails, salads, entrees and desserts. Looking at them, makes my own mouth water and gives me the urge to return real soon. The menu changes regularly and they often have nightly specials, that will definitely make you consider ordering off menu. Chef PK is very creative in his creations and Melanie, my favorite server knows how to describe them. While she's describing them, I swear I can taste them. Some of my favorites are; Healthy Bleu Salad, Black & Bleu Filet, Beet Salad and their, Wild Mushroom Soup. The soup is a must try. For dessert, it's all good, but my all time favorite is Key Lime Pie. I love the casual farmhouse atmosphere for a upscale restaurant. It creates a very relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a delicious meal. If you're heading up to Grafton on a Saturday, stop by SSM for brunch. You can enjoy one of their Breakfast Flatbreads or a omelette and no brunch is complete without a Bloody Mary or Mimosa. Again, I apologize for taking so long to give a shout out to one of my faves in Alton. ”
